  Artist's Statement/ Biography

I am an Ayrshire painter and sculptress who works in Oils, Clay and Bronze. I am classically trained in painting portraiture and in sculpting three-dimensional clay portrait heads, either to be fired or cast in bronze.  In the 1980s I studied portraiture painting under Trevor Makinson of the Glasgow School of Art over a period of two years.  I also attended the Glasgow School of Art one day a week as a part-time student over a period of two years.  My interest in more recent years has spread to Still Life/Florals and these are now my passion.  I like to paint life-size and to create images which portray subjects of great integral beauty in their own right.  I love to paint from life in “true” colours and, through the play of light on any subject, to capture the 3rd dimension.

I am an Artist Member of the Glasgow Society of Women Artists. I am an Artist Member and former President of the Ayr Sketch Club.  I exhibit in Scotland and my paintings feature in collections throughout the UK, France, the USA, Australia, New Zealand and Malaysia.  I am inspired by the Dutch Flower Painters, the Pre-Raphaelites, especially William Waterhouse and Holman Hunt.  I admire the portraits of Sir Henry Raeburn and Sir James Guthrie.  My contemporary influences are David Leffel, Scott Christiansen, Clyde Aspevig and Daniel Keys.

The paintings displayed on the following pages are for sale. Please contact me for more details and pricing. I also accept commissions in Portraiture, Landscape and Still Life.
